Travel Awards

The 2017 Fall Voice Planning Committee is pleased to announce the WINNERS of 8 - $500 Travel Awards. The awards are being generously provided by the Laryngology Educational Foundation and the National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association.

Laryngology Education Foundation Travel Grants:
(awarded to the top 2 submissions by MD and SLP trainees)
  1. Caitlin Bertelsen, MD – Keck School of Medicine presenting: "Serial In-Office Intralesional Steroid Injections in Airway Stenosis."
  2. Douglas von Allmen, MD - Resident at University of Cincinnati Department of Otolaryngology presenting: "UC Dysphagia score: a simple algorithm from validated EORTC-QLQ-H&N35 to predict overall survival in post treatment head and neck cancer."
  3. Shirley Gherson, SLP – NYU Voice Center, NYU Langone Medical Center - presenting: "Big Apple Circus: Voice therapy under the big top."
  4. Leah Helou, PhD, CCC-SLP – Systems Neuroscience Institute, University of Pittsburgh; UPMC Voice Center presenting: "Cortical control of the costal diaphragm in monkeys."
*There are two additional Laryngology Education Foundation awards that will be given at Fall Voice Conference for the best posters. So attention all the phenomenal poster presenters, make it a great one!

In collaboration with the NSDA, Fall Voice Week is proud to announce 4 awards from the NSDA to be given to the following dystonia related papers at Fall Voice Conference.

National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association Travel Grants:

  3. Linda Carroll, PhD, CCC-SLP, ASAHF – Montefiore Medical Center presenting: "Does Botox Make Me Look Better or Sound Better? The Effect of Botuliunum Toxin on Aerodynamic Measures in Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia"
  4. Christina Cerkevich, PhD – University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine presenting: "The origin of cerebral cortical output to laryngeal muscles."
